Image
Cape Week PSA! By: Jessica Troxell  The end of the semester is here and this is what seniors need to know about heading to  the Cape for the week in between finals and graduation.  Cape week officially starts Sunday, May 11th, and ends Friday, May 16th. During this week, there are a multitude of different things that seniors can experience, but the main event is the Senior Formal.  The formal is being held on Thursday, May 15 from 8 p.m  until  at the midnight at Cape Cod Irish Village at 35 Scudder Ave, Hyannis.  Students are encouraged to wear formal attire, and the tickets for the formal are free for Stonehill seniors.  Each senior is allowed to bring one outside guest. The guest ticket  $45 and can be purchased in the lower commons in room 103. The final day to purchase a ticket is May 2.  At the formal, there will be “finger foods,” so students are encouraged to eat before the dance.

Bye Bye Scooters

Bye Bye Scooters  By: Jessica Troxell    Come next year, scooters and similar devices will be banned on campus. Stonehill College announced it was prohibit omg use and possession of what the school calls micro mobility devices for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year.  In an email sent out on April 23,  Tom Flynn, the Vice President and head of General Counsel, informed students that as of May 19  electric scooters, electric skateboards, electric bikes, and other mobility devices will not be allowed on campus. Those violating the new policy will likely be subjected to the community standards process, as is the expectation for breaking most of the college's guidelines. The policy is put into place following reported safety concerns.  Earlier this school year in December Stonehill sent out an email regarding some guidelines for scooter users to follow.  The guidelines defined parameters around speeds, charging practices, and areas where rid...

Reduce, Reuse, Reuzzi

Image
Reduce, Reuse, Reuzzi By: Jessica Troxell      Reuzzi containers are back at Stonehill, only at Gigi's, but students don’t appear to be using them.             “I don’t use the Reuzzi containers because I feel like it’s a hassle. I'd rather just have the convenience of throwing away my container instead of downloading an app,” James Agostino, ‘25, said. Reuzzi containers are reusable to-go containers. To use the Reuzzi containers, you must download the Reuzzi app and tell the worker handling your food that you would like a Reuzzi container.  When you check out with your food the cashier will scan your Reuzzi app and you will get your food. When finished, students place the Reuzzi container in the Reuzzi bins located in the entryways of most academic buildings. Gigi employees say the containers don’t appear to be very popular. Since the revival of the Reuzzi containers on January 21...

Afterglow of Club Glow

Image
Jessica Troxell Afterglow of Club Glow             Seniors are still in the afterglow of club glow. Time is running out for seniors and as of February 7, they only had  100 days left before graduation. To celebrate Stonehill put on a 100 days party located in Commons A at the dining hall. The theme of the party was club glow and the students were encouraged to wear black light reactive clothing. The 100-day party lasted from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m. and most of those who attended were on a theme, most girls were wearing neon dresses and the common outfit for the boys being Hawaiian shirts with khakis. Overall the event seemed like a hit. Dan Snow 25’ said “ I had a lot of fun. I got to see a lot of people I haven’t seen in a while.” Pat Galusha 25’ said “It was a good time, I’m glad I went.” Ashley Ollis 25’ said “I had such a fun time and I loved the photo booth.” The party had a free self service coat check located over at commo...

Fifty Days Recap!

Jessica Troxell Fifty Days Recap!             The Seniors only have a few days left as graduation is fast approaching. On March 29 the Class of 2025 celebrated 50 days before May 18 graduation. The 50 days party was similar to the 100 days party that happened on February 7. At both parties, there was a coat check, bar, photo booth, and DJ. The style and overall atmosphere was energetic and full of students who were ready to enter their future. Students like John Pipczynski 25’ said he enjoyed the dance. “I had a good time it was fun,” he said.   Another student James Agostino 25’ said he had just one issue. “It was okay but, the bar was kind of slow”   At one point campus police and other staff came over to help with the line.  “I probably spent most of my night waiting at the bar but the party was alright,” Connor Doherty 25’ said.

Class Course selection tips

Image
Class Course selection tips By: Jessica Troxell        Course registration is approaching soon, starting on April 1st and ending on April 8th. With this deadline fast approaching, here are some tips and tricks to help ensure a smooth and easy course registration. Tip number one is to make a list of backup courses in case classes that you want fill up. This is important for students of all years, but especially the underclassmen since they pick last. Make sure your list includes the CRN numbers of the extra courses that you want so that you can easily find the course if needed. While you may not get the exact schedule you want remember you can always take the classes you need another semester, and if not you can always email the teacher or your advisor and see if they will let you in (which they often will). Another tip is to look up your professors on Rate My Professor. Lots of Stonehill professors are on Rate My Professor, and the reviews are usually ...

Tom Flynn Letter regarding Outside law enforcement on campus By Sophia and Jess

Tom Flynn Letter regarding Outside law enforcement on campus By Sophia Thomas and Jess Troxell    As deportation and immigration issues rise within the country, the college's general counsel is detailing what to do if outside law enforcement comes to campus.             Tom Flynn, the college’s vice president and general counsel, said that there has been an increased number of inquiries regarding what students’ and staff’s rights are regarding search and seizure from outside law enforcement in light of recent orders from President Trump. The executive order called for enhanced enforcement of Immigration laws, where aliens convicted of crimes be deported and those in the country illegally will be deported.  “When the executive order came out around immigration issues, we got some inquiries again about what that would mean for Stonehill and so we thought it would be a good idea to put out some clarifi...
