Reduce, Reuse, Reuzzi

Reduce, Reuse, Reuzzi

Reuzzi containers are back at Stonehill, only at Gigi's, but students don’t appear to be using them.
“I don’t use the Reuzzi containers because I feel like it’s a hassle. I'd rather just have the convenience of throwing away my container instead of downloading an app,” James Agostino, ‘25, said.

Reuzzi containers are reusable to-go containers. To use the Reuzzi containers, you must download the Reuzzi app and tell the worker handling your food that you would like a Reuzzi container.

When you check out with your food the cashier will scan your Reuzzi app and you will get your food. When finished, students place the Reuzzi container in the Reuzzi bins located in the entryways of most academic buildings.

Gigi employees say the containers don’t appear to be very popular. Since the revival of the Reuzzi containers on January 21, 2025 the highest number of Reuzzi containers that have been used per day is nine.  Students seem to be concerned about the container's cleanliness.

Melena Karolemeas, ‘26 said she worries the containers aren’t cleaned thoroughly enough. “I feel as though the school struggles cleaning the regular dishes sometimes and so I don’t really trust the Reuzzi containers that much,” Karolemeas said.

Caroline Nerich, ‘26 said she prefers the disposable, cardboard take out containers. “ I think it's just easier to use the throwaway containers because I don't like the time limit that is required to return the containers. I can’t always return them in time because sometimes I have classes back to back and I don't have time,” she said.

Samantha Anthony, ‘25 said she was also concerned about the reusable containers. “I think they’re kind of gross since they sit dirty in those return containers all day and when we used to have them they didn’t always pick them up like they’re supposed to.”

Gigi’s workers Sarah Kiptner and Barbara Binkos said the decision to bring back the Reuzzi containers was made by upper administration from Dining Services and that the containers are supposed to be collected every day and brought to the dining hall to be cleaned by a dining hall worker.

The dining hall cleans and sanitizes the containers and then brings them back to Gigi’s the next morning to be used again. So far Gigi’s workers have not had an issue regarding the cleanliness of the containers but they still do not appear to be gaining any popularity.
