Pond Cleanup

Declining water levels in the Stonehill Pond revealed a few surprises apparently left by students.

There was a bike, a coffee maker, a beach chair and a section of a wall, among other things Facilities employees were able to remove from the bottom of the pond.

Stonehill Facilities Associate Director Paul Ricci said they are aware of the problem and try to clean the pond at least twice a year, but people need to stop dumping items there.

“Everyone can play a part in keeping our campus and our environment clean and trash-free,” he said.

The items found recently were near the entrance of the school, with most of the items were found underneath the red bridge.

The pond near the entrance to Stonehill is home to several types of wildlife including, swans, ducks, geese, and turtles which can have negative effects from the debris in their habitat.
